Early Help

Early Help refers to providing support to children, young people, and families as soon as difficulties arise, aiming to prevent problems from escalating and promoting well-being. It involves various services and organizations working together to offer the right support at the right time. This approach is proactive, focusing on early intervention to address challenges before they become more serious.

Early intervention:

Early Help is a type of early intervention, which means providing support as soon as a potential issue is identified, rather than waiting for a crisis.

Targeted support:

It can be tailored to the specific needs of the child, young person, or family, addressing a wide range of challenges, such as parenting difficulties, school attendance problems, or mental health concerns.

Collaborative approach:

Early Help involves different services and professionals working together to provide a coordinated response.

Preventative:

The goal of Early Help is to prevent problems from worsening and to promote positive outcomes for children, young people, and families.

Voluntary:

Early Help services are usually voluntary, meaning that families can choose whether or not to accept the support offered.

Examples of Early Help services include:
  • Parenting programs.
  • Support groups.
  • Family support workers.
  • Educational psychologists.
  • Youth workers.
  • Mental health services.
  • Referrals to other relevant services.
